FAQ: Is my country eligible for implementation assistance?

Each State Party to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) is required, under Article IV, to ‘take any necessary measures’ to implement the treaty within its territory, under its jurisdiction or under its control anywhere.

In the spirit of cooperation amongst States Parties to the BTWC, the European Union is offering assistance to States Parties to the BTWC that seek to adopt or improve their national legislation to implement the Convention.

States that are party to the BTWC, but not a Member of the European Union are eligible for implementation assistance under the EU Joint Action in support of the BTWC.

The EU Joint Action website provides more details on the type and extent of assistance available and the procedure to request it. You can also contact the Council Secretariat for further information.
