FAQ: Who are the national stakeholders in the implementation of the BTWC?
Any person or legal entity in a State party to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) who is affected by national measures to implement and enforce the BTWC is a national stakeholder.
These include: parliamentarians; government departments (including agriculture, customs, education, foreign affairs, justice, health, internal affairs, science and trade); law enforcement agencies; biotechnology industry associations; scientific associations in the field of human/veterinary/plant biosciences; and civil society.
To facilitate the successful development and enforcement of appropriate national legislative and other measures, the responsible authority should engage in consultation, awareness-raising, and training of certain stakeholder groups at the earliest opportunity.
